Sri Lankan Airlines is to start operating scheduled flights between the UK and the Maldives this autumn.
From 26-Oct, the carrier will operate a four-times weekly service from Heathrow Airport to capital city Male, with an estimated flying time of 11 hours and 15 minutes.
National carrier Air Maldives already flies direct to the UK hub, but with a fleet of just five planes the airline has struggled to accommodate burgeoning demand for various routes.
As a consequence, Sri Lankan has been the dominant scheduled carrier of tourists to the island group for the past 20 years - and with the new service looks set to extend its reach still further.
