Alliance to introduce regional jets in 2007
Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Indian Airlines, announced (06-Nov-06) tenders to introduce six regional jets to operate under a low cost model on non-metro routes, as part of its turn around strategy.

The carrier is seeking to lease (for up to seven years) aircraft of less than five years of age in the 70-seat capacity class. Aircraft are to be delivered from Apr-07. Alliance is also looking to hire engineering staff and pilots for regional jet fleet, although it plans to outsource major maintenance work. Regional jets would be a new type for the carrier, which operates turboprops, as well as B737s (which are undergoing freighter conversion).
