Indian Airlines receives final CCEA approval to acquire 43 aircraft
Indian Airlines received (29-Sep-05) final approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for the proposed USD2.2 billion acquisition of 20 A319s, four A320s and 19 A321s.

The carrier will reportedly use 70% of the new aircraft to replace the existing fleet, while the remainder would be used to accommodate ‘growth in the market. Indian Airlines will take delivery of the first aircraft by Sep-06 and receive one aircraft every month thereafter.

Meanwhile, Indian Airlines announced (11-Oct-05) it has issued tenders to dry lease 12 wide body aircraft, including either A310-300, A330, A340, B767 or B777 aircraft, for a period of five years, extendable up to seven, to be deployed on new international routes. Tenders are due by 21-Nov-05. Indian Airlines plans to induct the aircraft during a one-year time frame commencing Jan-06, for a planned international expansion.
