An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) was formed (25-Aug-05) to undertake final negotiations with Airbus regarding pricing for the acquisition of 43 new aircraft by Indian Airlines.
29 of the aircraft will replace ageing equipment (including 11 B737s, 15 leased A320s and three A300s) and the remainder would provide additional capacity. The Finance Ministry expects an agreement could be reached within three weeks.
The EGoM, headed by Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, would comprise Law Minister, H R Bharadwaj, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes and Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel. |
