Air India Express took delivery of the first of three dry-leased B737-800s on 23 February.
The aircraft has 181 seats in an all-economy class configuration. The second and third B737-800s will be delivered in March and April respectively. Other start-up details include:
- Launch: Late April 2005;
- Fares: 25% below existing levels;
- Network: 31 services from Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram to Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. Three weekly services to the Gulf from New Delhi and Mumbai will be added at a later stage, while services to Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur would also be added as more aircraft are delivered. Parent, Air India, currently operates 90 weekly services to the Gulf region;
- Fleet: A proposal to acquire 18 B737-800s is awaiting government approval. Plans to operate 14 aircraft by March 2006, offering 127 weekly services to the Gulf and Southeast Asia.
