Air Sahara and British Airways (BA) signed (7 July) a Memorandum of Understanding to coordinate schedules, launch joint fares and explore possible codesharing in the future. A codeshare agreement could be reached within three to four months, subject to government approvals. Air Sahara is launching daily Delhi-London service, while British Airways is planning to increase UK-India capacity by 100%. BA plans to add capacity to Mumbai, Chennai and launch Bangalore service in Winter 2005. Air Sahara also plans to hold cooperation discussions with Cathay Pacific shortly. British Airways, American Airlines and Cathay Pacific are all members of the oneworld alliance, suggesting Air Sahara could be positioning to become the first Indian carrier to join a global alliance. Jet Airways recently stated it has no plans to join a global alliance. |
