Air India will be a part of the public awareness initiative on global warming - EARTH HOUR 2009. Iconic Air India Building at Nariman Point, as part of the global climate change campaign, will have all its non-essential lights switched off between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Saturday, 28-Mar-09.
Earth Hour - one of the most important global climate change campaigns by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is being brought to India for the first time. It is a worldwide call to individuals, communities and corporations to create a groundswell of support for action in the face of climate change.
In India, Delhi and Mumbai are the forerunner Earth Hour cities; but the campaign has also gathered momentum and became a peoples’ movement in several other cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin and Chandigarh, where people will be participating by turning-off the lights in their homes, offices and buildings from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Saturday, 28-Mar-09. The campaign is being conducted in full coordination with municipal bodies, police and public safety agencies.
