SkyTeam to re-organise its structure by end of 2009
02-Apr-2009 |
SkyTeam announced (01-Apr-09) plans to reorganize its structure by year-end, centralizing marketing, sales, alliance operations, finance and other administrative functions.
The change in structure mimics to a degree those of the Star and Oneworld alliances, where such services are handled through a management entity independent of member carriers. As such, dedicated SkyTeam employees will manage centrally such services as sales, marketing and advertising, as opposed to the current structure where those functions are handled by working groups comprising employees of the member airlines. SkyTeam appointed (01-Apr-09) Air France executive Marie-Joseph Malé as managing director of SkyTeam's new "management and support organization," which will be headquartered in Amsterdam. Malé is tasked with finalizing the organization structure and appointing the rest of the management team. SkyTeam chairman Leo van Wijk in a statement announcing (01-Apr-09) the new structure said, "In SkyTeam, we have always prided ourselves on our collaborative nature. However, given the changing landscape and the increased number of alliance members, we decided to adopt an organizational structure that allows us to navigate market realities more effectively. Given the opportunity for maximizing synergies and providing passengers seamless benefits, SkyTeam is positioning itself for today, as well as looking toward the future."
