Bangalore awards one of two ground handling contracts to Air India/SATS
Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) awarded (10-Apr-06) one of the two contracts for ground handling services at the new airport (which is due to open in 2008) to Air India-Singapore Airport Terminal Services.

Companies shortlisted by BIAL for the second contract include:

  • Bobba Group / Menzies Aviation;
  • Swissport / Cargo Service Centre.

Meanwhile, Air India Air Transport Services (AIATSL), a 100% subsidiary of Air India, commenced (06-Apr-06) ground handling services at Kozhikode, Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Pune airports, as part of an expansion programme. AIATSL is also planning to commence operations at Hyderabad, Trichi, Mangalore and Kolkata airports by Dec-06.

Indias ground handling market is reportedly worth INR5 billion annually and forecast to grow at 15% p/a.
