Air India Express (AIE) announced (05-Sep-05) plans to replace Air India on the following routes:
- Delhi-Bahrain: commencing Apr-06 using B737-800 equipment;
- Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai: Three times weekly service replacing current five times weekly service from Oct-05, under a new proposed winter schedule. AIE already operates three services, redirecting the total number of services on this sector to six from the current eight.
The winter schedule also include the following:
- Thiruvananthapuram-Abu Dhabi-Muscat-Thiruvananthapuram (four times weekly service). Air India currently operates six frequencies between India and Bahrain and reported a 17% increase in passenger traffic between Apr-04 to Mar-05 over the same period last year;
- Kozhikode-Abu Dhabi-Muscat (three);
- Kochi-Abu Dhabi-Muscat and Kochi-Muscat-Abu Dhabi (two each);
- Kozhikode-Muscat-Alain and Kozhikode-Abu Dhabi-Salalah (one each).
