Indian Airlines puts Surat on air map
National carrier Indian Airlines has put the diamond city of Surat in Gujarat on the air map of India, with the introduction of a daily direct flight from Delhi to Surat from today, 06-May-07. Surat has thus become the 54th domestic destination on Indian's network and the 4th city in Gujarat, after Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Jamnagar, to be linked by Indian.

Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Praful Patel flagged off the inaugural flight from Surat to Delhi at 1240 hours today, in the presence of important dignitaries of Surat, members of trade and commerce and the media.  Also present at the function were chairman & Managing Director of Indian Shri Vishwapati Trivedi and Shri K. Ramalingam, Chairman, Airports authority of India. Addressing the gathering at the function, Shri Patel was all praise for the lead taken by Shri Trivedi in providing connectivity to Surat with a brand new Airbus A319 aircraft.

The flight IC 417/418 will be operated with the 122-seater Airbus A319 with a twin configuration of 8 Executive class and 114 Economy class seats.  While IC 417 from Delhi to Surat will depart Delhi at 1030 hours and reach Surat at 1200 noon, the return flight IC 418 will leave Surat at 1240 hours and arrive in Delhi at 1410 hours.  The introduction of this much needed flight will link the two important cities and facilitate the movement of business and leisure travelers.

Surat airport has been upgraded to meet the requirements of a growing aviation industry with increased traffic demands.
