DGCA to take action against flight lapses in Jet Airways of 20-Oct-2009
Jet Airways flight 9W332 of 20 October, 2009 was operated with a B737-900 aircraft with pilot-in-command, co-pilot and a check pilot to test the proficiency and skill of pilots.

During monitoring the data of the flight by airline, an abnormal rate of descent was detected. Further investigation by the airline revealed that the check pilot had resorted to prohibited practice of testing the skill of the pilot. The matter was then referred to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The DGCA is enquiring into the matter. Meanwhile the following actions have been taken:

• As a preventive measure, instructions are being issued to all training captains including all pilots cautioning them against use of prohibited in-flight emergency simulations.
• Check- pilot–rating of the concerned check-pilot has been suspended pending enquiry.
• Concerned pilot-in-command and co-pilot have been de-rostered pending enquiry.
• Strict instruction are being reiterated for 100% flight data monitoring by airlines in addition to random sampling of the data by DGCA.
