Kingfisher signs deal for 50 Airbus aircraft
(CAPA): Kingfisher Airlines signed an MoU (to be finalised 'within weeks') for 20 A350XWBs (including the conversion of an order for five original A350s to XWBs), as well as five A340-500s (for a total of ten), ten A330-200s and 20 A320 family aircraft.

The book value of the deal is estimated at USD7 billion. Rolls-Royce is the sole supplier of engines for the A340-500 and A350XWB-800.

The MoU was signed by Dr Vijay Mallya, UB Group Chairman, the parent company of Kingfisher Airlines and John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, at a ceremony at the 47th International Paris Air show at Le Bourget.

Vijay Mallya, Chairman and CEO of Kingfisher Airlines, stated “our strategy at Kingfisher is to open new long haul routes and expand existing ones. With the A340-500 and then the A350 XWB we will be able to offer direct routes between India and the US for example. The A330 will allow us to expand services to Europe and the A320s will help us to meet demand in our home region”

Kingfisher currently operates a fleet of 23 aircraft including 12 A320s, three A319s and eight ATR 72 aircraft.
