Indian Airlines records 21.4% market share
(CAPA): Indian Airlines has reached the number one position in domestic passenger carriage for the first time in over five years.

The carrier recorded a passenger market share of 21.4% in May 2007 displacing its nearest competitor.  Indian Airlines also recorded the maximum monthly carriage of 1.01 million passengers during the month.

While the airline led the market in terms of Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPK) recorded in March and April, May has seen the Indian Airlines achieve the unique double – in both RPK and passenger carriage terms.  In fact, the airline continues to be number one in RPK for the third month in succession, achieving 21.7% market share in May.

Seat factors recorded by the airline in March (71.8%), April (78.1%) and May (77.9%) were much higher than the industry average.

This performance has been achieved as a result of aggressive marketing programmes like Premium Economy Fares, Surf and Save, Corporate Super Saver scheme, etc. besides product upgrades in both technology and inflight service, improved on-time performance and operational efficiency, increased reach and connectivity through participation with global distribution systems.
