(CAPA): Air Deccan added its 20th Airbus A320 to its fleet taking the airlines total fleet strength to 44. The new Airbus will be based in Kolkata and will help in Air Deccans expansion plans of providing improved low fare travel options and increased connectivity. The Airbus has an all economy seating with a seat capacity of 180.

The new aircraft will be inducted into the schedule on 10th July 2007 with introduction of new flights out of Kolkata starting 10th July 2007. The new aircraft would increase frequency from Kolkatta to Vishakapatnam, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Bhubaneshwar. The Kolkata–Vishakapatnam service will be a new sector introduced by the airline. This city pair is not serviced by any other airline and Air Deccan will be the only airline connecting Kolkatato Vishakapatnam. Bookings for the new flights will open on 29 June 2007.

Air Deccan CEO, Ramki Sundaram states, “Safety and on-time performance is the most important commitment to our passengers. The induction of brand new aircrafts with increased efficiency will ensure that we deliver our promise. The A-320 comes with the latest technology, powered by the IAE V 2527 –A5 engines and is a highly dependable aircraft ensuring complete safety and reliability."

Sundaram further adds, “Air Deccan is the market leader in terms of connectivity and passenger numbers in Kolkata & North East. We have the largest market share in the Kolkata region with more than 70 daily flights and loads averaging 85%. We believe that
the growth of the aviation sector will not come from only servicing the Mumbai-Delhi sector but by opening up newer unconnected sectors. With this aircraft, we will introduce flights on the Kolkatta-Vizag route and increase frequency/capacity on the other mature routes”.

At present Air Deccan has seven aircraft based at Kolkata and the new airbus will be the 8th aircraft to be based there. Kolkata is the largest base for Air Deccan’s ATR operations.
