Air Deccan plans to increase fares
(CAPA) Air Deccan announced plans to increase fares by USD12.20-24.50 to ensure a break-even result by early FY07/08.

According to The Hindu, Capt GR Gopinath, Chairman & Managing Director, stated, “Air Deccan has to hike fares to become profitable... it is in the interest of consumers and the industry as we have to be profitable to be operational. It is difficult to assess when would the company turn profitable, but we expect that we should break-even by April-June quarter next fiscal year”.

Meanwhile, Air Deccan recently announced plans to upgrade its ageing ATR42 fleet with new generation ATR72-500 equipment to increase efficiency. Ramki Sundaram, Chief Executive, stated, “over the years these aircraft have aged, requiring increased down time for maintenance, which has hit our punctuality. We have decided to replace the ageing fleet in a phased manner".

Air Deccan currently operates a fleet of 43 aircraft comprising 20 A320 and 12 ATR 72 aircraft, and operates 350 daily services to 65 destinations.
