Indian full-service, regional equipment operator Paramount Airways on 30-Aug-07 proposed a new set of intra-Kerala services to the Chief Minister for the state, V.S. Achuthanandan.
The Chennai-based carrier, which has made avoiding the overcrowded main airports a key part of its business plan and has achieved a 26% market share in Southern India, indicated its interest in linking Keralan cities Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
Managing Director of the carrier, M. Thiagarajan, hinted that the new services would be contingent upon a reduction in ground-handling, landing and parking charges at Kochi’s Cochin International Airport, where the carrier would like to establish an operational hub. Minister Achuthanandan and Managing Director of the airport, Sriram Bharath, vowed to investigate and consider his appeal.
As an incentive, Paramount would reserve 30-40% of the offered seats for official government duty travel. Under the proposed arrangement, the officials would travel at the same price as on the second-class air-conditioned trains they currently use for duty travel within the state.
