Air Deccan led consortium explores low cost airport opportunities
(CAPA) A consortium led by Air Deccan, GVK Airports, IDFC and Rahejas, confirmed it was exploring low cost airport development opportunities in small cities, reportedly including Bijapur, Shimoga and Gulbarga.

According to the Hindu Business Line, GR Gopinath, Executive Chairman, stated, “I suggested that States should not wait for the Centre to develop airports. They should build low-cost airports in smaller cities. They could give it to private parties...We need to find new markets to have more passengers to fly. Otherwise it will be cannibalising into one another’s pie”.

Similar low cost airport developments are reportedly being explored by Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra governments in Nellore, Kadapa and Sholapur.
