(c) Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation: Simplifly Deccan announced plans to launch services from Guwahati to Silchar and Aizawl on 20 December 2007.

Deccan has announced the launch of new daily flights connecting Guwahati to Sichar and Aizawl. Operations will commence on 20th December 2007 and an ATR aircraft has been deployed to serve these routes. The bookings are open.

Aizawl the capital city of Mizoram is a prominent centre of handloom, textile and bamboo furniture production. Apart from its political and commercial importance the city is also the religious and cultural capital of the Mizos and is blessed with exotic natural beauty. Silchar in Assam serves as the economic gateway to Mizoram and parts of Manipur and is a prominent commercial centre famous for rice and tea trade. Millions of people travel between these great cities round the year for business and leisure.

Ramki Sundaram, Officiating CEO Deccan said “Air connectivity is the key to harness the potential of cities in the Northeast and facilitating the growth of industry and commerce. There are no rail links in Mizoram and the closest railway station to Aizawl is in Silchar 180 kms away which makes long bus rides the only affordable option. Given the limitations of rail and road transport in the region affordable air travel will provide immense respite to thousands of travelers, spur economic activities and encourage movement of tourists.

Deccan’s new flights connecting Aizawl, Silchar and Guwahati will provide the convenient option of air travel at affordable fares to businesspeople, professionals, students, housewives and senior citizens alike.

He further added, “We recently launched our Ticket Door Delivery facility for people booking through our call centre. This service has been initiated keeping in mind the needs of people in far flung areas without reliable credit card and internet facility. Being the only low cost carrier operating in the region, Deccan has established affordable air travel as a viable option for millions of people and going forward we will continue to widen our network and operations.”

With the prominent travel mode being buses and trains which makes for long and arduous journeys, Deccan’s flights offer highly convenient air connectivity at affordable fares. Deccan already connects Guwahati, Baghdogra, Aizawl, Dimapur, Silchar and Imphal in the Northeast.
